Founded in 1982 by Nancy Brinker, the organization is named in memory of Brinker’s sister Susan, who died of breast cancer in 1980 at the age of 36. Brinker, a breast cancer survivor herself, promised her sister that she would do everything she could to end breast cancer.
Today, the Komen Foundation is the leading private funder of breast cancer research. Susan G. Komen For The Cure, has invested nearly $1 billion dollars in research, education and health services, bringing us closer to a cure. The Florida Suncoast Affiliate of the Komen Foundation raises money that supports treatment, education and screening programs for the underserved women of Polk County.
Our goal is to raise at least $10,000 for the Florida Suncoast Affiliate.
